Deepening Dayeinu: Cultivating a Spirit of Gratitude in the Face of Adversity
Dayeinu is first found in the Haggadah of Rav Amram Ga’on, who lived in the 9th century. There a small number of medieval figures who believed it originated in the times of the Second Temple, though it is not found in the Tannaitic literature that makes up much of the Haggadah. What does Dayeinu mean, and what purpose does it serve in the choreography and meaning of Seder night?
