About Beth Jacob
For the last one hundred and twenty-five years, Beth Jacob Congregation has served the Bay Area Jewish community as a Makom Tefillah (house of worship). As a Modern Orthodox synagogue committed to Halacha, we host the only daily Minyan in Oakland with morning and evening services, as well as inspiring Shabbat and holiday services, which have grown more musical and song-filled through initiatives like our annual Musician-in-Residence program. But Beth Jacob is more than just a synagogue.
Beth Jacob also serves as a Makom Torah (a center for Jewish study and growth) where an “opt-in” culture encourages life-long learning and programming. Beth Jacob offers wide-ranging religious programming, and youth and adult education for those with limited and extensive Judaic backgrounds. But Beth Jacob is also more than a study hall.
Beth Jacob is a Bayit (home), a multi-generational community that feels like family, where we support each other through life’s ups and downs. It is a place where we love, value, and celebrate the State of Israel. It is a place where we blend our religious commitments and love for God, Judaism, and the Jewish people, with a sense of social responsibility to the larger Jewish and general societies we take part in.
Beth Jacob is all of these things and more. It is the place where all are encouraged to grow and take the next step in their Jewish journeys.
