Welcome

BJC would like to send a warm welcome to the newest members of shul:

Barak Raz & Dana Pomerantz

Zoe Levine Lenhoff & Maxwell Kushner-Lenhoff

Paul Schaffert & Nene Kalu

Hila Cohen & Slavic Teplitsky

TU BSHEVAT

Check out the vibrant Tu BShevat Tree our BJC kids made!

While each child only got to see and make a small portion, even in these distant times the pieces can join together to make a beautiful mosaic. It will be on display at the Brick House (3718 Emerson Street) over the weekend, next door to the shul. Make it a destination on your Shabbos Walk!

CHANUKAH 5781

We hope that everyone had a meaningful and joyful Chanukah.

APPRECIATION FOR OUR COMMUNITY FABRIC COMMITTEE
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who organized all of our Chanukah events during the Stay-Home Order, especially our Community Fabric Committee: Rebecca Astrachan, Robin Gluck, Ariel Siegel, Lauren Wilner, and Rav Shua!

SUFGANIYOT POP-UP
More than 80 families drove by to pick up their free sufganiyot from Grand Bakery on Sunday, December 13th. Although almost everyone stayed in their cars, the event brought so much joy to our community. Thanks to all of the volunteers who made it possible, to Grand Bakery for the especially great sufganiyot, and to Chani Green and Avichai Minkoff for the loan of their giant blow-up menorah for extra fun.

WINNER OF THE FIRST ANNUAL GOLDEN LATKE CONTEST

Deborah Sosebee! It's time to start preparing for next year's competition.

CHAG HABANOT
26 women gathered on Zoom with Meira Albert and Lauren Wilner on Tuesday, December 15th to learn about the North-African tradition of Chag HaBanot and to connect with other women during Chanukah. It was a beautiful event filled with education and reflection. Thank you, Meira and Lauren!

Ernie Hollander Z"L

Ernie was a longtime member of BJC and a Holocaust surviver with an incredible story.

Rabbi Shua Brick

Please help us give a warm welcome to Rav Shua Brick, who just arrived on Sunday and is joining our community as our Director of Family Learning.

Rabbi Brick’s role at Beth Jacob will involve reimagining youth engagement during this uncertain time, as well as planning for how we can continue to meet the needs of young families in the future. For those of you who loved the adult learning that Rabbi Brick brought to our community – don’t worry. He’ll continue to play an active role in our adult education program as well.

Rabbi Ezra Cohen

We benefited greatly from last year’s experience with Rabbi Shua Brick and look forward to welcoming Ezra Cohen to Beth Jacob as this year’s Rabbinic Intern.

Rabbi Ezra will join our community (either virtually or in real life) for approximately five weekends throughout the coming year, and spend time learning about the community rabbinate from Rabbi Albert. He is a third-year rabbinical student at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (YU), and has previously served as a rabbinic intern at Congregation Ohr Torah in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a talented educator with a passion for psychology and its relationship with Judaism, and is a close student of Rabbi Judah Dardik.

We look forward to learning from Reb Ezra as he gets to know our community!
