Women’s Beit Midrash

Our first year of the Women’s Beit Midrash was such a success that we will continue this unique learning opportunity for the women of our community for a second year.

Community Scholars Michal Kohane and Sarah Robinson will each lead the Sunday morning Beit Midrash sessions during their visits to Oakland from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM.

Michal Kohane

We welcome back Community Scholar Michal Kohane, who will be joining us for four Shabbatot throughout the year. We thank her for the special commitment she is making to return periodically from Israel – and we can’t wait to continue learning from her inspiring Torah.

Michal Kohane, a former member of Beth Jacob and Jewish educator in the Bay Area, is a student at Yeshivat Maharat, and served as the spiritual leader of Prospect Heights Shul before moving back to Israel this past summer.

Shalhevet Cahana

Shalhevet Cahana teaches Talmud and Halacha at Manhattan Day School and serves as Community Scholar at Beth Jacob Congregation in Oakland, California. She is grateful to have taught Torah in over 60 synagogues and campuses across North America.

Shalhevet is a Kallah teacher with a holistic approach – teaching the core halachot of niddah and mikvah – as well as intimacy and healthy communication skills. She was trained by The Eden Center in Israel.

Shalhevet previously studied in Maimonides School, Migdal Oz, Stern College for Women and their advanced Gemara program called the Graduate Program for Advanced Talmudic Studies (GPATS).

She lives with her husband Dvir Cahana in Washington Heights.
