Women’s Beit Midrash

Our first year of the Women’s Beit Midrash was such a success that we will continue this unique learning opportunity for the women of our community for a second year.

Community Scholars Michal Kohane and Sarah Robinson will each lead the Sunday morning Beit Midrash sessions during their visits to Oakland from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM.

Michal Kohane

We welcome back Community Scholar Michal Kohane, who will be joining us for four Shabbatot throughout the year. We thank her for the special commitment she is making to return periodically from Israel – and we can’t wait to continue learning from her inspiring Torah.

Michal Kohane, a former member of Beth Jacob and Jewish educator in the Bay Area, is a student at Yeshivat Maharat, and served as the spiritual leader of Prospect Heights Shul before moving back to Israel this past summer.

Sarah Robinson

We welcome Community Scholar Sarah Robinson to inspire us with words of Torah over Zoom until we are able to resume having Shabbatot in person. Sarah Robinson teaches Talmud and Halacha to middle school girls in Manhattan Day School.

Previously, Sarah taught a Nashim B'Gemara v'Halacha course in the OU-sponsored Bnot Sinai program in the 5 Towns; led 5 trips to Israel for millenials and emerging adults through OU Israel Free Spirit Birthright and World Mizrachi-Religious Zionists of America; and taught as the Visiting Scholar in Ohav Sholom in Merrick, Long Island for 5 and a half years. Additionally, Sarah has prepared over 20 girls for their bas mitzvah celebrations. Sarah previously studied in Maimonides School, Migdal Oz, Stern College, and Yeshiva University’s Graduate Program for Advanced Talmudic Studies (GPATS).
