*~* ~*~ CLASSES THIS SHABBOS & THIS WEEK ~*~*~*

Tuesday: The Summer Study Chavurah  will be meeting again this summer, reading texts from Medieval Jewish philosophers ranging from rationalists to the more romantic-poetic.  Alongside the primary source text material, they will be examining background material regarding the thinkers and the times in which they lived.  Scholars whose writing we be examined include: Saadyah Gaon, Bachya ibn Pakuda, Rabbi Eliezer ben Isaac, Solomon ibn Gabirol and Judah ha-Levi.  In this self-lead group, text is read and opinions are offered to grapple with ideas and offer personal contributions. The group will meet at Beth Jacob on Tuesday evenings, beginning June 17, directly after evening minyan.  No book necessary; all material will be copied and distributed and all are welcome.

*~* ~*~MESSAGE BOARD ~*~*~*

The Third Annual Jack Weinstein Memorial Golf Scramble will take place on Sunday 21 September '08 from 7:00 AM at the Chuck Corsica Golf Complex in Alameda. It is an opportunity to make new friends and renew acquaintances within the broader East Bay Jewish Community. The day includes greens fees, carts, prizes, and lunch for $125 and checks should be made payable to The Brotherhood of Temple Sinai, 2808 Summit St. Oakland, CA 94609. For more details liaise with Phil Rubin on either 510-547-8080 or phil@legalmaster.com. Let Phil know your handicap or typical score so that you don't have to compete against the likes of Tiger Woodstein.

The Highway 580 Minyan is now 4-5 in its 3rd year of East Bay softball competition.
For those not familiar, the Minyan is the joint team sponsored by Beth Jacob Congregation and Beth Abraham.  It features such a rousing cheering section, made up largely of Gan students and some pretty mediocre, but awfully nice players. If you are thinking of coming out next year for the team and want to check out the final home stretch campaign of the '08 year come out on any Sunday from now to the end of July. Games are at Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek on field 4 on the 6th (at 10AM)  and 13th (at 9AM).  Playoffs are on July 20 and 27th and those games are yet to be determined-- but we will play. For more information you can nudge Stephen Leist, Hugo Wildman, Jason Klein or Todd Wilkof in Shul for details

Dana Gross' parents are looking to housesit or rent a place with a kosher kitchen for 4 weeks-mid October through end of Nov.
(dates are flexible). Please call Dana Gross if you know someone who might be interested: 510-848-6029

Mariah Batt, neighbor & good friend of Judith Schwartz, is available to walk a stroller to shul. Mariah is a 31-year-old single mom, hard worker, honest, soft-spoken and, most of all, reliable. Contact her through email: MariahBatt@gmail.com
